Alpha Mentality Dog Training didn't start as a business plan. It started with a Labrador and a lot of YouTube videos.

I went all in on positive-only training, did everything by the book, and eventually took my dog through a well-known training program. She was the best dog in the class. They used her as the example for other owners. On paper, it looked like a success.

But I knew something was missing. We could get her to do almost anything with food in hand, but the second the food was gone, certain behaviors just didn't hold up. She was still overly hyper, still struggled to settle, still had habits that pure positive reinforcement couldn't fully fix. I kept wondering what the next level looked like, and no one around me could answer that.

Around that same time, I mentioned to my trainer that I wanted to get a Doberman. I'll never forget the look on her face. She told me not to. She said they were too hard to train.

That answer didn't sit right with me. Dobermans are one of the smartest breeds out there. If a smart, capable dog was considered "too hard to train," that told me the training approach was the problem, not the breed. That moment sent me down a completely different path.

I got my Doberman, sought out real professional training, and everything clicked. Balanced training, using both positive reinforcement and fair correction, was the missing piece I couldn't find on YouTube or in a positive-only classroom. It's the difference between a dog that listens when it feels like it, and a dog that listens because it understands.

I've been training dogs professionally since 2020, and my wife & I started Alpha Mentality Dog Training to give owners in Downey and surrounding cities what I couldn't find for years: training that actually holds up in real life, not just in a controlled classroom with treats in hand.
